Writing Challenge Day 1

I had to write this morning based on yesterday's prompt since there wasn't one for today yet. I might change my normal morning posting to the afternoon anyway. I haven't had a full cup of coffee this morning!

I turned on the timer, read the prompt and let the words flow. The prompt was to talk about the weirdest food I've ever eaten.

Here's the result:

I can't say I've ever eaten anything weird or strange. My tastes are pretty mundane. I like comfort foods with cheese and calories. Steak, potatoes and broccoli. Or anything Italian. Pasta is a weakness.

Here's the continuation after a few sips of coffee:

I take that back, actually. When I was six or seven, we had a strange woman and her equally strange son living across the street from us. He might have been stranger than her because we saw him eating something out of his yard once. Being kids, we assumed it was dog poop!

The woman asked if I wanted to come over for dinner. I wish my mother had said no to her, but she happily allowed me to have dinner at the home of a boy who would rather eat poop out of his yard than his mother's cooking. She served us liver and onions. I thought I might gag, but my mother had taught me to be polite. I smiled and pretended to eat, but really pushed it around with my fork until she let me escape.

People who eat liver and onions may not think it's weird, but I did and still do!

I added my little bit to the One-Minute Writer blog, but Disqus hates me. I'll keep trying. Tomorrow I'll complete the challenge and post in the afternoon when there's a new prompt, my eyes are actually open, and I'm fueled with coffee.

  2. My husband is all about same ole' foods. I love to change it up a bit. He says he did not marry me for my cooking. Not that I'm a bad cook, I just don't make boring enough food for him LOL

    1. They are comfort foods because they're comfortable and yummy. On the other hand, it can't hurt to try something new once in a while.

  3. I remember my parents having liver and onions for dinner... thank goodness they never made us kids eat it! :)

    1. You're very lucky! I can think of ten things my mother made us eat that I hated including pea soup. It's making me gag a little to think about it.

  4. Just the thought of eating something that is a "filter" is disgusting!!! The purpose of the liver is to filter toxins out of the body. YUCK! lol

    1. That means it's probably filled with toxins still, too! One more item to add to the list of things I hate about liver.

    1. It has a strange consistency, and it tastes awful. I'm happy to steer you away from it!
